THE Dentistry is an area of human science that makes the diagnosis and treats diseases of the system stomatognathic – masticatory system , that is, face, neck, oral cavity, including bones, muscles, joints, teeth and other structures.
It is responsible for ensuring the correct function of this system – chewing, phoning, swallowing, digestion and part of the breath.
Purpose of the Sleep Dentistry Council
Expand the dissemination of Sleep Dentistry with dentists from all over Brazil, in order to enable an increase in the number of these professionals as members of the ABROS /ABS and their participation in the sleep area; strengthen the Sleep Dentistry in the context of ABROS at ABS; insert Sleep Dentistry in ABS multidisciplinary events; facilitate communication and engagement of Certified professionals in Sleep Dentistry in their respective regions and with other professionals working in Sleep Medicine; produce clarification material for the lay public about the Sleep Dentistry .
Professional in the field of Sleep Dentistry
The professional graduated in Dentistry , acts in the diagnosis and being responsible for some treatment options for Obstructive Respiratory Disorders of Sleep such as obstructive sleep apnea in adults and children, upper airway resistance syndrome, snoring, sleep bruxism . Patients can benefit from an evaluation by a certified Dental Surgeon in Sleep Dentistry by ABROS to treat these disorders through intraoral devices and skeletal surgery of the facial bones.
Training is graduation in Dentistry and Sleep Dentistry Certification .
This in turn is obtained through courses taken by institutions and teachers qualified by the ABS – Brazilian Sleep Association and ABROS – Brazilian Sleep Dentistry Association .
Generally this professional has a first dental specialty – being areas of interest such as: Orthodontics, Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, TMD Specialist – Temporomandibular Disorders, Specialist in Oral Rehabilitation among others.
