What is / What does the area of Physical Education and Sleep cover?

O Physical Education professional it can act in the prevention and in the assistance and complementary treatment of several sleep disorders. In addition, you can participate in multidisciplinary Health Education programs, which aim to inform the general population about the benefits of regular physical exercise in terms of sleep quality, and reducing the damage caused by sleep deprivation.

Purpose of the Physical Education Council

O Physical Education Council its main objective is to publicize the role of physical education in the area of sleep among Physical Education professionals, from all over Brazil, in order to enable an increase in the number of these professionals as members of ABS and their performance in the area of sleep; promote complementary training in the area of sleep; insert the topic Sleep and Physical Exercise in the multidisciplinary events of ABS and encourage the inclusion of sleep content in the curriculum of higher education institutions in Brazil, in addition to fostering and stimulating the exchange of professionals who are carrying out their professional qualification and conducting professional training courses.

The Professional in the area of Physical Education and Sleep

The Physical Education professional acts in the prescription and orientation of the practice of physical exercises with a focus on the prevention and / or aid of adjuvant treatment of sleep disorders, such as movement disorders, obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, among others, according to publications existing scientific research. In addition, it should encourage the practice of regular physical exercises with a focus on maintaining and / or improving general health and quality of life, which directly impacts the quality of sleep.

Formation history: The Physical Education professional who works in the prevention and adjuvant treatment of sleep disorders must have training in Physical Education – Bachelor’s degree and deep and updated knowledge in the area of sleep. This knowledge has been offered in undergraduate and graduate courses, short courses and scientific congresses.
