The area of Sleep Psychology

THE Sleep Psychology, an area of integration between psychological science and sleep science, studies the relationship between the psychological, behavioral, social and physiological aspects of the sleep-wake pattern in different age groups, seeking to understand, prevent and intervene to promote healthy and well-rested sleep. -the general state of the individual and the promotion of public health.

Purpose of the Sleep Psychology Council

O Sleep Psychology Council aims to stimulate the dissemination of knowledge in sleep and the specific role of the sleep psychologist among the general population, students and health professionals. For this, he is involved in the production of digital and printed content, in the promotion of lectures and interviews; organization of introduction and training courses in Sleep Psychology; participation in scientific congresses in the area of Psychology and Sleep and definition of the criteria for Certification in Sleep Psychology.

The Sleep Psychology Professional

Research in sleep psychology contribute in directing the measures and practices of evaluation and intervention in different segments of Psychology , with emphasis on the Clinical, Educational, Health / Hospital, Organizational and Work Psychology, Sports, Traffic, Development, including Neuropsychology .

Among the clinical interventions of the sleep psychologist, evidence-based non-pharmacological treatment, such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) , parental guidance / education for childhood sleep problems and behavioral interventions that assist in adhering to the treatment of different sleep disorders.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia

THE CBT-I is considered the first line of treatment for chronic insomnia, with scientifically demonstrated effectiveness .

CBT-I is based on a multifactorial model of psychological, neurophysiological and behavioral aspects that can predispose, precipitate or perpetuate insomnia. Using cognitive and behavioral techniques that are effective in maintaining long-term results, CBT-I is a brief therapy , focal, directive and structured that can be applied individually or in groups.

THE CBT-I it can be applied alone or in association with pharmacological treatment, with particular relevance during the withdrawal of hypnotics in chronic use.

Sleep Psychology Certification

THE ABS carries out certification in Sleep Psychology through the publication of public notice and proof of certification since 2017 .

Certificates of approved candidates are awarded in partnership with SBP https://www.sbponline.org.br/ .

In 2019, both entities signed an “ Collaboration Term ”To promote training, dissemination and research in the field of Psychology and sleep-related science, with Sleep Psychology as an area of expertise, aiming for assistance, pedagogical and public health excellence.
